VIRGINIA TIDBIT

Berkeley Plantation

Virginia's most historic plantation and site of the first official Thanksgiving in 1619. Birthplace of Benjamin Harrison V, signer of the Declaration of Independence and 9th U. S. President William Henry Harrison, whose grandson was our 23rd president. Bugle call "Taps" was composed here in 1862 at the Civil War headquarters of General McClellan and 140,000 Union troops. Superbly furnished 1726 mansion. Terraced boxwood and flower gardens offer breathtaking vistas of the James River.
