ADOPT-A_HIGHWAY

Adopt-a-Highway provides an opportunity for you or your family, business or civic group to clean up litter and listen for Virginia roads to breathe a collective sigh of relief. Every year, more than 6,000 Adopt-a-Highway groups collect about 300,000 bags of trash from 14,000 miles, or one-fourth, of Virginia's roads.

Sherwood Forest Plantation

This c. 1730s house was the home of 10th President, John Tyler from 1842 until his death in 1862. Continuously owned by the Tyler family since 1842, the grandson and family of President Tyler reside and maintain Sherwood Forest today.
 
 

The Richmond Chapter is Cleaning Up Richmond Streets!

Weather permitting, the next "Pick Up Party" will be held
Saturday, October 25, 2008 starting at 8:30 AM.

As part of our ongoing committment to community service, the Richmond Chapter of the APA is continuing to participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Several times a year our members maintain a few miles of road, cleaning up the litter and having some fun wearing our orange vests. It only takes about an hour a couple of times a year to do our part for Richmond. The more members we have the less time it takes. Let's work together to keep the highway clean.

Our stretch of highway begins where Parham and River Road connect and runs down to the Willey Bridge. Notices will be sent out a few weeks before the next clean-up. Everyone is welcome to come out and participate in this worthwhile endeavor.

From East of Richmond:
  1. Take I-64 West to Richmond
  2. Merge onto I-95 North,
  3. Merge right onto (I-64 West)
  4. Immediately take the exit ramp onto I-95 South Powhite Parkway
  5. Get off at the Cary Street Exit ramp and go West on Cary
  6. When you come to a fork in the road bear right onto River Road
  7. This should be near the Country Club and after you bear left you should see signs of the University of Richmond.
  8. Meet at 8787 River Road at All Saints Episcopal Church.
Or:
  1. Take "I-64 West to Richmond"
  2. Continue on ramp at sign reading "Exit 190 I-95 S 5th Street to
  3. Petersburg / Downtown / Coliseum" and go South for 0.7 miles
  4. Continue on Richmond-Petersburg Tpke,I-95 and go South for 0.8 miles
  5. Bear right on ramp at sign reading "Exit 74A VA-195 Toll
  6. Downtown Expwy to Powhite Pkwy and I-195 N" and go
  7. Southwest for 800 feet
  8. Bear right on I-195,Downtown Expy,VA-195 and go
  9. Northwest for 2.9 miles
  10. Continue on Powhite Pky at sign reading "Powhite Pkwy
  11. Express and VA-150 / VA-288 / US-60" and go Southwest for 3.1 miles
  12. Continue on ramp at sign reading "VA-150 N Chippenham Pkwy and VA-147" and go West for 0.3 miles
  13. Continue on Chippenham Pky,VA-150 and go Northwest for 4.7 miles
  14. Continue on N Parham Rd and go East for 0.2 miles
  15. Turn left on River Rd,VA-650 and go East for 400 feet to 8787 River Rd
