Meeting Notes from the Richmond Chapter of the APA02/20/08
Meeting Minutes - 02/20/08APA Richmond Chapter Laura Swecker, President called the meeting to order at 8:35 AM. Laura acknowledged first time attendees. Scholarship Presentation: Linda Gwaltney presented first time scholarship in memory of her stepson Matt Gwaltney to Shanna Gilbert. Betty Martin updated attendees on the online FPC and CPP classes. Betty also presented a handout on FPC/CPP courses that provides education credits for recertification. Statewide Conference Update – October 16-17, 2008 in Williamsburg. Theme is “World Series of Payroll” 25th Richmond Chapter Anniversary – planning team is being formed and Dan Maddux will be guest speaker. 2007 National Payroll Week – Richmond Chapter won Honorable Mention. Possible 2008 National Payroll Activities may include (1) James River Cruise (2) Donations to Central Virginia Food Bank and (3) Competition between Companies. Community Outreach update from Jo Anna Best. Adopt a Highway – Parham Road on 3/15/08 (rain date will be 4/5/08) Relay for Life will be 6/7/08-link on website. Fundraiser – Flip Flop sale The sponsor for the Chapter Meeting was H & R Bock. A tax advisor spoke briefly on Tax Services.Betty Martin, CPP, Director of Education, gave a presentation on “The Benefits of CPP/FPC Certification and How to Stay That Way”. Loren Johnson, IRS Tax Consultant provided presentation on Tax Changes for 2008. The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 16, 2008.
