The Richmond Chapter of the American Payroll Association Is Dedicated to Our Community
Did you know that September 2-5, 2008 is National Payroll Week?
National Payroll Week coincides with Labor Day to recognize and honor America’s working men and women and the payroll professionals who pay them. National Payroll Worker’s dedication ensures that American workers are paid accurately and on time and, through the payroll withholding system, collect and report nearly 70% of the nation’s revenue.
How can you support your payroll workers?
Members of the Richmond Chapter of the American Payroll Association are celebrating National Payroll Week by organizing a food drive to support the Central Virginia Food Bank, on Saturday, September 7, 2008, from 8:00am until 1:00pm locations to be announced.
The top five food items needed by the CVFB are:
• peanut butter
• canned fish and meats
• canned fruits and vegetables
• hot and cold cereals
• pasta and rice
AND that's not all...
The Richmond Chapter of the APA will be "Cruising into NPW" on a 2 and a half hour river boat ride up and down the James River. Lunch and entertainment are included.
Robert Half Finance and Accounting/Accountemps and the Richmond Chapter of the APA will, again, have an open house at their Innsbrook location 4951 Lakebrook Drive from 4 - 7 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2008.
There will be Mock Interviews, Resume Critiques, and a presentation on Hiring and Compensation Outlook for which you will receive 1 RCH. Their will be cake, balloons and door prizes.
Be sure to attend this Open House. It will be helpful, informational and fun. See you there.

Although we are an association based on our profession, we realize that work is only part of our lives. Our chapter is two decades old and has actively participated in community service projects and in an education scholarship fund since our inception. Here are a few examples of our current projects:
Bring your old glasses and hearing aids to the next meeting. We will get them to the Lion's Club who has provided assistance for those needing assistance for years.
Are the old cell phones hanging around your house? Bring them in and we will deliver them to women's shelters. These phones will always call 911 and those seeking shelter need this ability to call for help.
Participate in the Cancer Relay for Life project. In June, we have the opportunity to walk for this cause and raise money from those sponsoring your walk.
All funds that are contributed by us as a chapter go the American Cancer Society. We all know someone who has been effected by cancer and this is our opportunity to help find a cure. Join us for remembering, celebrating and saluting our lost loved ones and more importantly our survivors.
Join us at one of the local shelters to serve food; visit shut-ins at nursing homes; teach someone to read; collect food for the Food Bank.
Relay for Life Cancer Walk

The Richmond Chapter team joined the Relay in April, 2007 for the June walk. Our team name is "It Pays to Find a Cure" and we had 17 members on the team. At this point we have collected $2,805.00. Nancy and Jim Davies donated the biggest portion of the tee shirts to our team and they looked terrific. Thank you, Nancy and Jim. Our Captain, Jo Anna Best, and Feldman Lane, a past president, participated in the opening survivors walk and the rest of us took up from there. We received a lot of support from LandAmerica both in walkers and matching gifts.
We also have several members from VA Department of Accounts who participated in the Richmond West Relay for Life. All in all, we can be very proud of all of our members who were involved in one fashion or another.
We will begin preparations for the 2008 Relay in August. Please don't hesitate to help the team in any way you can.
Michael D. Jones Scholarship Program
Mike was the son of Michael Jones, Sr. an active participant in the APA for many years. Mike was an architecture student at Hampton University here in Virginia and was involved in a car accident and was taken from us.
Today his memory lives on in a very positive way through the donations given to the Michael D. Jones, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Support for Bainbridge Ministries Since 1997
Our members collect nonperishable food stuff at each meeting to support the ministry. We also focus on collecting school supplies in July. In November, the members collect toys and money to help them enjoy a Merry Christmas.
The Adopt-A-Highway Program
Several times a year our members maintain a stretch of Richmond highway where Parham Road and River Road meet.
